Donations BIOSAND WATER FILTERS IMPACT INDIA Our Friends Who Care mission to India in 2009 has taken us to Delhi, Ranchi, Kolkata, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kerala and Lucknow. We have worked with Gospel for Asia (GFA) to advance and expand the Biosand Water Filter projects that were established during and after our 2007 visit. We will be returning to India soon to continue our work. To date we have 32 manufacturing locations throughout India and we continue to expand rapidly to meet the tremendous need. Right now we have the capability of producing an amazing 50,000 filters a year. We provide Biosand Water Filter technology and training to GFA and install Biosand Water Filters in the homes of underprivileged families, community centres, schools and churches in each area. We provide an information and technology transfer to create a self sustaining program. Much of the initial costs of setting up the manufacturing of the filters are paid for by Friends Who Care. Friends Who Care has also provided the technology and information to manufacture and install Solid State Lighting Systems (Solar Powered Super Bright LEDs) for those outside the electrical grid. The local organization, GFA, has been trained in the installation and maintenance of the lights. We expect to return to India soon to help launch this important ministry.
How can we improve education, break the poverty cycle and enhance lives when people do not have enough light to even read!! YOU CAN PARTICIPATE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE! We are currently fund raising to help launch the SOLID STATE LIGHTING Systems that will light up the lives of thousands of families, schools, libraries and churches throughout India. Most of the areas we work in have very limited electricity or none at all. Can you imagine!! The small light consists of a 5W solar panel, a 12V 7Ah sealed lead-acid battery, switches, connectors and wires, and a 3 watt LED lamp capable of lighting up a room 20’ x 20’ with over 200 lumens of light! The solar panel charges the system during the day and provides up to 6 hours of light every night. There are no ongoing monthly costs for the recipient. The cost of one unit is about $US53.00 The larger light consists of a 10W solar panel, a 12V 10Ah sealed lead-acid battery, switches, connectors and wires, and two 3 watt LED lamps capable of lighting up a room 20’x 40’ with over 400 lumens. The cost of one unit is about $US110.00. Can you visualize lighting up your home with just 6 watts? All donations are used directly for setting up Biosand Water Filter projects or Solid State Lighting Systems for individual families or entire villages, community centres, schools, libraries or churches outside the electrical grid. The funds are used for training local NGOs in their country and assisting them in creating self sustaining and self sufficient projects of their own. In other words, we teach them how to fish, not just give them a fish for a day. Thank you for your compassion and interest in making a difference.
