Now that the formal classroom training is complete and we have 22 graduates, we are looking forward to getting the filters into the home of local families. The filters need to set up and harden for about one week before they are safe to transport. Once they are ready they are loaded onto trucks or carts along with pre-measured sand, coarse sand, gravel and diffuser plates.

Plans on being made to return to Nicaragua to purchase a truck for the Biosand Water Filter project. We are also going to expand our territory and begin making filters in the north central areas as well. At the present time we can make uo to 100 filters a month. This can be increased to 200 a month and with our new truck we should be able rapidly get them out to the familieds in need. Let's all work together to make this project exceptionally successful. Please consider becoming our financial partners. We can assure you that 100% of your giving goes directly for the benefit of the most needy families.

Nicaragua is actively producing filters each month. We are trying to provide filters for the 600 feeding centres for up to 60,000 children that are fed daily in Nicaragua by Samaritans International. The rainy season makes it a little more difficult, but Irving and Cruz are real troopers and they get the job done. With our new Hyundai 2 ton diesel truck, a 200 cc motorcycle, a new cement mixer and a secure well designed facility, the job gets done more efficiently.

We are going to Nicaragua Nov. 11 through December 16 to work with Irving and Cruz on the Biosand water Filter project. Ingrid and I will also be visiting with Officials from the Education Department, Government Officials, Large Employers, Church Leaders and Non-Government Organizations to create a united front against poverty, sickness and disease. We believe "TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE". We definitely need to work together. Education is the key. Our program includes clean healthy water, sanitation, hygiene, proper food handling, nutrition and cleanliness. The benefits can be huge. Somer of ther immediate benefits include improved health for students, employees and families, less sick days from schools and employment, happier, healthy employees and families. We strive to empower Nicaraguans to solve their own issues and we know they can if we all work together.

The production of Water Filters for Nicaragua is going great. We have a capacity of 100 filters a month now and we will be brining the production potential up to about 160 filters a month. We are striving to donate filters to as many schools as possible. So far we have donated filters to just over 100 schools.
Samaritans Internaional feeds 63,000 children every day in over 600 feeding centers. Pat Brown, President, is doing an amazing job of reaching out with love and compassikon in action. We want to provide filters to as many centers as possible as quickly as we can.
We are praying for a 4x4 Jeep to get the filters into the remote areas. We can buy a Jeep in Nicaragua that will do the job for about $5,000. If you want to partner up with us financially, please go to our donate page. Your help would be truly appreciated. Together We Can Do More.

Ingrid and Rod travelled to Ecuador in search of a Christian NGO to team up with to establish Biosand Water Filter projects. Throughout the 5 week exploration and research we were able to identify a significant need for clean water projects and humanitarian assistance. We also looked at specific needs and are determining our involvement and participation in some.
Jan - 2014 - Rod
Our lastest trip to date began Jan 9, 2014 when we set off for Mexico, particularily Ensenada and Hdermosillo. In Ensenada we teamed up with “El Refugio”, operated by a wonderful lady - Pastor Olga. Pastor Olga has set up “The Refuge” (English for El Refugio) for troubled young men age 14 and up and has been operating for over 17 years. These young men have been welcomed into Pastor Olga’s restoration home at no charge and stay anywhere from a few weeks to a few years. In a typical year there are over 150 young men cycle through "El Refugio". Many are transformed into productive members of society incuding Pastors and Evangelists, full time skilled workers and happy. loving Fathers and Husbands. We found there was no support offered from any organizations, governments or other charities. Friends Who Care International is reaching out to help “El Refugio” and Pastor Olga. Pictures will be posted on our web site under “El Refugio”, Ensenada, Mexico soon.
We were able to establish a Biosand Water Filter project for “El Refugio” while we were on site for a month. Making and selling the filters will help cover some of the costs of running the center.
